South African Menswear Week, held July 6th-9th, 2016, is Africa’s only stand-alone platform dedicated to the development and promotion of menswear within the African continent. Taking place twice a year in Cape Town, South Africa, SAMW aims to provide a world-class platform for menswear designers and brands to showcase their latest collections. A series of shows over four days, only the best of menswear is invited to be on the schedule each season.
The goal is to be the leading platform in terms of innovation, trends, production and most importantly, the promotion of our designers. It’s about building credibility for the platform that will enable designers to grow their businesses.
Curated by leading industry experts, SAMW panel selects and invites the best of established and upcoming designers to participate each season. Coupled with the best show producers on the continent, and innovative event management, from PR through to venue selection, SAMW aims to provide the necessary platform for our designers to get the exposure they require in order to grow their businesses.
Modelled heavily on the world’s leading platform, London Collections: Men, SAMW has intimate show venues seating no more than 300 people, and clean, simple show production with nothing to detract from the clothing. Our partnership with the platform will also see leading SA designers eventually showcase in London, both as a drive to build exports, but also more importantly awareness of these brands back home in South Africa.
“South African Menswear Week is the continent’s most credible fashion week platform, and combined with the goals of the promotion of South African designers, both locally and abroad, is ushering in the next wave of truly mega labels. People are already asking for, and buying, young designers such as Lukhanyo Mdingi, showing the new “pull model” implemented by SAMW leaves other platforms in the stone ages.” – WWD
