African Business Awards 2009 Winners & Pictures

The African Business Awards an event that “celebrates excellence and best practices in African businesses and recognizes those who have driven Africa’s rapidly transforming economy,” held its 2009 Awards dinner in London in early July. The event organized by African Business Magazine and was attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and other leading African government officials and leaders. Ethiopia Airlines won “Best Airline of the Year,” Morocco walked away with “Toursim Destination of the Year,” “Best Global Business” went to Diaego, a global giant in the business of drinks and Maria Ramos was the winner of the coveted “Business Woman of the Year.”

Other Winners: Award for Governance, Lagos State, Nigeria; Award for Most Improved Investment Climate-Mauritius; Lifetime Achievement-Pascal Dozie, Founder and Chairman Diamond Group & Chairman, MTN Nigeria; Best Corporate Social Responsibility-Standard Chartered Bank; Telecoms Company of the Year-MTN; Award for Best Agricultural Development-Malawi; Business Leader of the Year-Cyril Ramaphosa, Executive Chairman, Shanduka; and African Business of the Year-Equity Bank, Kenya
