Macy’s Inc. announced Tuesday it will close five stores as part of its annual process to “prune” underperforming locations. The closure will affect 307 full-and part-time employees. Last year Macy’s closed eleven stores and in 2008 nine. Stores affected this year are downtown Boise, Idaho; Summit Place Mall, Waterford, Mich.; Northwest Plaza, St. Ann, Mo.; downtown Missoula, Mont.; and Burlington Center Mall, Burlington, N.J.
It is either the economy is getting worse or Macy’s business model is just completely wrong. We think the former.
