It was Spring 2012, Nigerian designer Lanre Da Silva Ajayi (LDA) had just showed her latest collection. She stepped out on the Arise runway to take her bow when she, unfortunately, fell into the Orchestra pit at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York. Thankfully she was not hurt. But, in that split instance, LDA became a worldwide known label.
LDA began by introducing us to her Edwardian aesthetics but over the years has edited the collection to be more pragmatic and functional for the average Nigerian fashion forward woman. For Spring/Summer 2013 at MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week, LDA was inspired by butterflies and chose assorted silk fabrics to express the LDA Woman for this season.
She also experimented with lace and velvet fabrics with her signature embellishments and silhouettes that drew on the Edwardian references she is known for.
There were silk dresses, tops, skirts and pants with butterflies all printed on them.
Check out a few images.
