Michelle Obama Sophie Theallet Ghana Style

Michelle-Obama
The dust has settled a bit from this past weekend when the Obamas visited Ghana, West Africa. While we of course hoped Michelle Obama would rock a Ghanian designer outfit because of its implications on a global level about Africa, truth be told, the turnaround time appeared quite short to achieve that goal.

Nevertheless, the brilliant First Lady spent her time in a very meaningful way. During her short visit, she toured the ‘Door of No Return’ in Cape Coast Ghana, revisiting a grim history on slave trade. She also visited La General Hospital in Accra, Ghana. For her visit to the hospital, Michelle Obama wore a summery sleeveless white dress with a full skirt contrasted with bright ribbon stripes by from Sophie Theallet’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Sophie Theallet is a French now USA based designer whose distinct point of view is “bohemian luxe seen through the eyes of a sophisticated couturier.”
