Ladybrille Music: (Video) Baby it’s Over, “Pata Pata” by Temi DollFace @Temidollface

“Pour me a drink and I will tell you a lie, what would you like to hear? That I am in love with you and all the things you do, you know that won’t be sincere,” is the opening lyrics to talented Nigerian singer Temi DollFace as she bids her lover goodbye.

In the video, Temi explains the relationship is over, “pata pata” (as in there is no saving grace or redeeming prospect/quality in the relationship.) The video’s storyboard, styling and overall execution all aggregate to repeat the theme of her song through out the video. Indeed every detail in the video captures a relationship that has reached its climatic point of disappointments, cheating et al. and a woman that is finally ready to give her man the boot for good. Funny little details like a “truth juice” when she says “pour me a drink and I will tell you a lie” makes what would seem like a sad moment in any relationship quite funny.

For a breakup song, however, both the beat and video is refreshing and upbeat. Dollface even manages to throw in some dance moves for good measure, complete with elements of the popular Ghanaian style dance ‘Azonto.’ There is also a bit of reference to common street slangs among Nigerian urban youths with words  like “Ginger Your Swagger” creatively scribbled for good visual effects.

Overall, ‘Pata Pata’ is a sassy, funny, witty and progressive video that would be a perfect “good riddance to bad rubbish” theme song, for anyone unafraid to finally take his/her own destiny into his/her  own hands and embrace new beginnings, with someone else. Ladies, skip the ‘Pata Pata’ knives used by Temi in the video, or at least DO NOT try chopping anything on the male body with them. If the relationship is not working, find the courage to let go, pata pata.

“Baby it’s over, pata pata.”

Enjoy.
