A brilliant design collection, for us, is a well edited one. One that tells a story from the beginning to the end, excites us and motivates us in a “gotta have mustha” have sense. Pieces can be deconstructed and can occupy our wardrobes as timeless classic pieces. If the collection pushes the envelope a bit i.e. is non-conformist, that is an added plus. One of the few lines that has been able to capture what we enjoy from our African designers this season is the design brand Suzaan Heyns.
For Autumn/Winter 2011 Heyns presents so many beautiful juxtapositions fit for the Ladybrille woman. The Ladybrille woman in a Heyns piece commands attention and so does the Ladybrille man. Heyns starting with a neutral color palette of nudes, whites and caramel, manages to keep the brilliant woman strong yet sensual, innovative yet classic. Lines are kept clean maintaining a very contemporary feel to the collection.
“[My] inspiration for Joburg Fashion Week 2011 comes from looking at the mechanics of the human body. It is about inner symbolism looking at physical mechanics and taking it onto the outside which in turn represents the unveiling of our hidden psyche,” explains Heyns about her collection.
We like. We note traditionally heavy fabrics are nicely paired with light ones allowing for amazing movement and sensuality. Enjoy.
