Nigeria (Naija) if you’ve never heard of Chinwendu Ofor-Nwoko better known as Chichi Nwoko, get ready to meet her! Connecticut based Nwoko prepares to move to Nigeria this year to take the reins as Deputy Director of Marketing at Optima Media Group (OMG). Her new position means she will oversee the company’s global and pan-African marketing initiatives which includes high profile projects in the fashion, sports and entertainment world.
“I am so excited about the oppourtunity to give back my knowledge and expertise to my country and my continent,” said Nwoko to LadybrilleNigeria. “OMG is headquartered in Nigeria and London and some of the projects that I will be (overseeing) include the World Cup in (Nigeria), Idols Africa and Apprentice Africa to name a few.”
Nwoko will also assist OMG in the launch of offices in New York, South Africa, Ghana and Kenya.
Nwoko the daughter of a Nigerian Diplomat father was born in Dublin, Ireland and as a result of her father’s work, has lived in numerous countries including Trinidad and Tobago, The Gambia, Mali and Nigeria before the family’s move to the USA. In 2003, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in African Studies from Columbia University. By 2004, she was already named an “Executive to Watch” by the prestigious National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment.
Nwoko who is also Co-Publisher of Black Star News, New York’s investigative newspaper, began her broadcast journalism career as a consumer affairs intern with WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. She has subsequently worked for television networks like WTNH-TV (New Haven, Connecticut), WAVY-TV & WVBT-TV (Portsmouth, Virginia) and WISH-TV (Indianapolis, Indiana).
