Editor’s Note: Money, Money, Money!

Happy New Month of May! This month, we take on the sensitive and taboo topic MONEY! But before I go any further, how busy has May been? Has it been just me? My May started off on a very busy note. I caught a little breathing space with my birthday on May 5th, 2011 (Cinco de Mayo) and of course Mother’s Day celebration on May 8th, 2011 and it has been back to busy, again. I hope your month has been great so far, and hopefully not as busy.

In this Money Edition, our focus is on the careers of the Ladybrille man and woman; from the early to more established phase of the work life. To that end, we feature twenty-three (23) year old Jeremy Jackson who is just beginning his career as a photographer. Although 23, Jackson has accomplished quite a lot including working for the late world renowned architectural photographer Julius Shulman and now famed celebrity photographer John Russo. How does he do that? What is it about Jackson that sets him apart and is placing him, at just 23, towards a successful career and strong financial stability? To answer that question, we enlist the help of our beautiful Ladybrille Woman of the Month Kim Allman.

Allman takes us along her career path from college to law school and then working as a Corporate Lawyer with a big firm. She, however, leaves the big firm job to follow her true passion and true calling, helping people gain financial independence and success. Responding to her calling, for Allman, has been a good thing. For one, she is our Woman of the Month for May. Allman is also gaining recognition and is being touted as one to watch in the Financial world. She has been featured on Forbes.com, AOL.com and Black Enterprise.com and we are delighted to have her this month as she shares some insightful tips with us on making money and keeping more of what we earn.

Finally, all that money and career talk cannot overshadow the reality that summer is here! I trust many of you are already planning your vacations. For the Ladybrille ladies, look out for features on Africa’s sexy swimwear brands and summer trends. Once you’ve purchased that sexy swimwear and you finally make it to the beach, on far away shores, for a great vacation, it is only fitting you enjoy a good read as you “soak up the sun and tell the world to lighten up.” For that, we offer a review of Onaedo The Blacksmith’s Daughter by Ngozi Achebe, a tale of two women separated by four hundred years but linked by history.

Enjoy the beautiful month of May and stay connected with us all month long!

Have a brilliant May!
