United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has shifted its focus on Nigeria’s ailing textile industry encouraging a revival of the industry. In a released statement late last month, UNIDO explained the significance of the industry to the country’s economic health, “The Nigerian textile industry represent(s) a strategic non-oil industry and the second largest industry in many parts of Sub Saharan Africa.”
UNIDO is now in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BoI) to revive the industry with particular emphasis on cotton production. The organization has also partnered with the Federal government and the State of Abia for a construction of a garment training center for garment producers.
