In the past year, the company has been involved in the manufacturing and final assembly of computers (laptops and desktops) as well as open source software development and application management. Their biggest accomplishment would be selling locally manufactured computers to Nigerians.
What makes them unique to all other local manufacturers is that the VEDA Team is part and parcel of product design and development including 3D Design, Tooling, Molding, Manufacturing, Final Assembly, Installation, Quality Control and Packaging. Our products are simply-put Nigerian Made. The advantages are that 1) they own intellectual property on all our product designs and tooling materials 2) Products are unique made by Nigerians for Nigerians 3) They manage pricing better through material design in 3D and 4) They undergo virtual product testing before tooling.
In addition, through their Just In Time manufacturing model, their supply chain management is effective and efficient in delivering products with short production time without compromising cost of funds. They achieve this negative cash conversion cycle through forecasting and supplier management for integral parts and components (they turnover inventory 3 times a week).
Other milestone in the less than one full year of business are the receipt of a bonafide manufacturer’s certificate from the Ministry of Finance, this means that they pay 0% custom duty fees as local manufacturers; they began an advertising campaign with FirstBank for consumer finance and they are launching an Internet Bundle Package with our products in collaboration with Visafone. Bode is also the chairman of the VEDA Academy, Computer Hardware, Software and Information Technology training Institute launching this February.

It is a human capacity development and marketing strategy, packaged and designed to assist corporate employers and other employing agencies to observe first hand, the attributes, intelligence and sagacity of young employable Nigerians, through a high definition DVD viewing of a short video presentation and a scanned curriculum vitae in an interview scenario.
Correspondingly, it is a platform which can enables employees to receive instant comments, requests and obtain professional assistance from potential and prospective employers to enable young graduates get employed or develop themselves so as to attain a higher level of professional career from the convenience of a mobile phone or internet access. VIDEO RESUME is not an instant and guaranteed get employed scheme, but a medium through which employers are given a better means to observe, relate and conveniently view the special attributes and qualities of a young graduate they can easily employ. To achieve this feat, they have developed a sophisticated hardware and software application device that functions on and world wide web, with the capacity to enable stakeholders to track the process of their profile on the one side of the employee and afford the employer on the other hand to tidily and orderly recruit the best candidates they require.

This is intended to give motorists and commuters in particular, live information on traffic build-ups (go-slows), alternative traffic routes and bottleneck areas by sms and via our website. For ease of movement within the city, they are also mapping by electronic means all bus stops and roads in Lagos State for commuters and motorists to access relevant traffic information by sms (text) messages and currently have a number linked to the major telephone and mobile networks for this purpose. As can be viewed from the website, this project will entail passing of information from traffic agencies to the general public and vice versa on such issues as road closures, road repairs, news and development on the Bus Rapid Transit Scheme and other traffic/transport news.

Uchenna Eze
Uche was born in 1984 and runs a ‘new media’ company BainSTone as Creative Director: using the internet as a vehicle to celebrate African/Nigerian entertainment, music, fashion and people.
The company is the parent company of bellanaija.com, where Uche is MD/Editor. It’s major accomplishments in the past year fall under 2 categories: successfully promoting Nigerian culture – music, movies etc – and then, successfully establishing themselves as a legitimate and respected online portal. The ‘blogosphere’ had been considered as a hobby space but with the work Bella Naija has done. Corporates now view this online space as a viable place to promote their products and services. Bellanaija is very easily the most influential new cultural tool on the internet.
Amongst other highlights, they worked with international advertisers and investors on building content and developing site and worked with Oprah Winfrey on a show on superstars across the world, for its Nigerian content. In addition to online media (bellanaija.com and future sites in pipeline), BainStone also offers online marketing services and has successfully executed projects for corporate including Nigerian Breweries.
The Bella Naija story illustrates how passion can develop into viable business. From a blog, it has grown to a website that is at the forefront of developing online media as a lucrative and liable business. Bella Naija has encouraged many to join the online media industry and with the plans we have for 2010, we are working towards developing opportunities for others to enter this industry and create successful businesses within it.
