Swahili Fashion Week 2011: Made by Africa (Pictures)

“Launched in 2009, Made by Africa is a uniquely African-produced concept label that produces high quality jersey fashion for men and women.

The label features high quality knitted apparel produced by Kibotrade Textiles Ltd, the first Fair-trade registered textile factory in East Africa that has been awarded with the SA 8000 (Social Accountability Standard) official recognition.

Organic cottons and cotton mixes are sourced from Tanzania, Uganda, Mauritius and Egypt in an array of colours offering choice to the consumer. The brand’s design ethos supports local talent, creating high quality ethically produced knitted garments using a selection of locally sourced materials that rejuvenates and revives the perception of everyday basics.

The concept of looking locally is supported further by the continual donation of 1 US Dollar for every garment sold goes to assisting in education for children at the SOS Children’s Village in Tanzania.”
