Studio 53 Extra, Africa's Extra TV Show Launches!

Promising the glitz, glamour and hot gist on Africa’s hottest fashion and entertainment celebrities across the globe, Studio 53 Extra, similar to America’s Extra TV, launched yesterday in Lagos, Nigeria. Nigeria’s Dolapo Oni is one of two presenters that will presenting on the show. Click here to see her in action on the promo video. “Since its debut six years ago M-Net’s flagship program Studio 53, has enjoyed widespread popularity with audiences across Africa, capturing the continent’s appeal and celebrating its talent and energy. Tune in this month as M-Net brings viewers a brand new show, the revamped and revitalized – STUDIO 53 EXTRA.

Returning to DStv screens on July 1 the spin-off show will premier in a brand-new half-hour Thursday timeslot and will focus on the entertainment Industry on the African continent. It will showcase the latest in music, movies and fashion, as well as red carpet events across the continent.

Incorporating the best of its past with several dynamic new elements plus two brand new presenters the show will bring audiences the ‘Entertainment News’ of the continent as well as the latest news on Africa’s celebrities and captains of industry.

The brand new STUDIO 53 EXTRA will be anchored by the gorgeous duo of Eku Edewor, a graduate from the New York Film Academy, and Dolapo Oni who trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in the UK.

Dolapo who couldn’t contain her excitement on being chosen a presenter on the show says, “Once we had our first few shoots I soon realised the job was a pretty big deal. It’s been extremely exciting and I am having such a great time working with my co-host.” She goes on to say that she’s “delighted to join the M-Net family and is looking forward to working on the show.”

“The decision to restructure Studio 53 comes as M-Net seeks ways to constantly innovate its television formats in line with international trends and evolving audience needs”, says M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi. She goes on to encourage audiences to stay tuned as a new revitalized Studio 53 spin-off takes to the air.

Having launched in 2004, to date STUDIO 53 (named in honour of the 53 countries in the African Union), has visited dozens of countries, stretching from the Cape’s southern tip of Africa to Cairo in the North. Along the way the series has stopped at destinations as varied as the ancient cities of Ethiopia and Tunisia, the stunning dunes and deserts of Namibia and Mali, the bustling heart of Nigeria’s Nollywood. STUDIO 53 EXTRA will bring viewers more of these exotic destinations plus extra on exclusive red carpet interviews and glamour and lifestyle.

DStv audiences in West Africa can tune in for the premier of STUDIO 53 EXTRA on Thursday July 1 at 20:00 CAT, while audiences in East Africa can tune in at 21:30 CAT. Those audiences who misses the Thursday show can tune in for the repeat on Sundays at 19:00 CAT.”
