Seoul, Korea: African Fashion Designers INVITED to Showcase at WORLD FASHION4 DEVELOPMENT’S GIVING BACK BAZAAR

“New York, NY (January 10, 2013) From March 18th – 19th 2013, World Fashion for Development (WF4D) will host its annual “Giving Back Bazaar” at the Conrad Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. The Bazaar is a two-day fashion fundraiser showcase featuring individuals, corporations and organizations in the fashion industry who are currently working towards economic development in Africa.

The event is co-hosted by the Korea Formal Style Association (KOFOSA) and with the support of South South News , Advanced Development for Africa (ADA), Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, ONE ASIA and Japan Formal Style Association(JAFA). Co-founder of Fashion 4 Development Evie Evangelou as well as Fashion 4 Development’s Goodwill Ambassador Franca Sozzani, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italia will be present at this event.

Participants will include luxury brands such as Chanel, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton in addition to World Fashion Grand Prize honorees whose work in promoting development through fashion are in support of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

This year’s event will have a special focus on Africa. For the first time, African designers are being invited to showcase and sell their products at the Bazaar. The Giving Back Bazaar will include a Charity Couture Gala Dinner Show featuring collections from some of Africa’s most prominent fashion designers. The chair of the WF4D Africa Chapter , Roberta Annan said “This is a great opportunity for African Designers to showcase their work but at the same time, it’s also a great cause in which they are taking part in.” In addition to this, The R’ajwa Company, a PR company with expertise in Fashion and Africa has been hired to promote and run various PR campaigns for the bazaar prior to and during this event.

Established as a non-profit in June 2011, WF4D exists to harness the power of the global fashion industry to develop human resources and promote education and social integration to increase awareness and funding for job creation in countries with a historically slower rate of economic development.

WF4D works to support the UN Millennium Development Goals of ending poverty, promoting economic development, humanitarian cooperation, environmental awareness and social responsibility by using fashion as an avenue for global development. As part of its efforts, WF4D raises money for a scholarship that serves to educate and train individuals enabling them to harness the power of fashion to empower their communities to build a sustainable future.

WF4D has previously demonstrated its commitment to Africa with the awarding of their 2012 scholarship to Ghanaian jewelry designer, Linda Young. Profits from the Bazaar will be used towards the WF4D Scholarship.
