The feature highlights her work and discusses her transition from the USA to the rough terrain of Nigeria’s film industry. Okwo is the co-founder of the Audrey-Silva movie production company and the director of the award winning movie ‘The Meeting’ starring Rita Dominic.

Director Mildred Okwo shines on the cover of Nolly Silver Screen woman issue
Lawyer turned filmmaker extraordinaire Mildred Okwo covers the Woman Issue of Nolly Silver Screen magazine. The award winning director, producer, screenwriter and film marketer speaks about her career, settling down in Nigeria and the business of Nollywood.
“Nollywood is enterprising because it is an industry that was borne out of nothing and many of the people in it are quite hardworking and resourceful. It is also desperate because it preys on a lot of human beings that are so desperate they will do anything to get ahead in Nollywood. Finally, Nollywood is promising because the future is bright and promising in spite of allthe challenges. ” says Okwo.
Speaking about the theme of the edition, Isabella Akinseye, Editor of Nolly Silver Screen said, “Sadly, it’s a man’s world when it comes to directing films in Nigeria but thankfully, things are gradually changing. We now have more women playing major roles in the production process.” She also added, “To get more women in film, we need to shine the spotlight on those already there. We need to tell their stories, so that other women (and men) can be inspired to follow their dreams.”
The tenth issue of the monthly 40 page digital magazine includes interviews with female African filmmakers. “We interviewed female filmmakers and actresses including Chika Anadu, Belinda Effah, Mary Lazarus, Laura Kutika, Ijeoma Grace Agu and Mariama Sylla Faye,” said Akinseye.
Articles featured in this edition include ‘Top 10 Women in Film’, ‘Mahen Bonneti: Africa Goes to New York’ and ‘10 Most Influential Nollywood actresses’.
“The November edition includes reviews, listings, articles, cartoons, red carpet fashion, news from the festival circuit and awards, competitions and much more,” says Akinseye.
