New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013: Maatano (Review & Pictures)

We are big fans and supporters of the Maatano design label owned by twins Idyl and Ayaan Mohallim. Over the years, since the launch of their label, we have always enjoyed the carefree spirit the label strives to create for its woman. However, we have also craved a more refined and even tightly edited collection that really embraced feminine curves while embracing freedom and versatility.

This season, we think we finally got it. The Mataano Spring/Summer 2013 collection was playful, flirty, sensual, very feminine, colorful and versatile enough to take us from our corporate settings to fun evening cocktail parties with friends.

“We went back to a softer, girlier path for Spring,” explained the Maatano twins to the press. “The starting point was the beach — from the collection’s color palette, which consists of Ocean Mist, Green Coral, White Yacht, Sand and Sun –to the spare, no-frills silhouettes. We wanted the kind of easy, flowy pieces women can throw in their suitcases when traveling to the beaches of Malibu, Mombasa or St. Barts. We showed dresses in color-blocked silk, loose fitting pants with ultra-wide legs, breezy organza tops and silk, printed dresses.”

For us at Ladybrille, we definitely appreciate the “girlier” path for Spring. Enjoy images from the collection.
