“This is a fashion film to tribute the South Africa designers featured in the stills shoot. SOUTH AFRICA– Style icon, performance artist, songwriter and singer, Lindiwe Suttle has premiered a snippet of her debut single “Man Made Moon” produced by Hamburg producer Benni Dernhoff, along with an accompanying behind the scenes video of the photo shoot shot by photographer Andrew Brauteseth. The behind the scenes video was directed by young talent fashion videographer Roice Nel. True to form, Lindiwe’s behind the scenes video is packed with over-the-top costumes, quirky dance moves and her deep soulful voice sets the mood for the song. The single will be included in Lindiwe’s upcoming EP, Man Made Moon, which is slated for April release. The EP will be a collaboration of work with producers Ivan Georgiev from Berlin, Benni Dernhoff from Hamburg and Gabi Le Roux from South Africa.
Man Made Moon is another word for satellite. The story is about a modern day female stalker, a female satellite that is a bit delusional and stalks this particular guy on Earth. “I have been single for a while and there is a sense of desperation that I sometimes feel with myself and my other single friends. There is a lot of pressure to be in a relationship,” explains Lindiwe.
“I wanted to release a fashion video along with a teaser of the single to pay tribute to the work of the creative team,” says Lindiwe. Andrew Brauteseth was the stills photographer and art director, and worked closely with Lindiwe to conceptualize the shoot. “Andrew shot me for the international Frazer Parfum campaign and I wanted to work with him again because I love how he directs and choreographs each frame, he understands the small stories with in the whole story,” explains Lindiwe.
Andrew explains his vision for the shoot. “The original idea of the shoot was inspired by movement and dance. I wanted to blend both hard and soft movements and choreograph the stills in a way that showed the song’s themes in a dramatic and unique way. The single “Man Made Moon” also has a lot of references to outer space, being out of touch and a sense of alienation on an emotional level. So the styling, hair and the strong pieces of clothing from the designers adds to these layers of meaning. On the cover image, Lindi has a very powerful pose, but you also get this sense that she has landed from outer-space, some place totally off the radar.” Hair was designed by the innovator Kevin Epstein and makeup was done by Shanaaz Alexander, who has been Lindiwe’s makeup artist since the start of her music career in South Africa.
Style award winner, Lindiwe continues to work with South African designers and partnered with young design graduates Lara Klawikowski & Lameez Claasen and established SA jewelry designers Ida Elsje and Philippa Green to create a truly futuristic look that captures the mood of “Man Made Moon”.
After Lindiwe releases her EP, she will be working with Berlin producer, Ivan Georgiev from ZPYZ on her debut album out later in the year. Her sound can be described as genre blurring with influences from electronic dance, rock-n-roll and soul music. The full length music video for “Man Made Moon” will be directed by Chloe Coetsee and shot in March 2011. Lindiwe will be again collaborating with local designers, Lara Klawikowski, Ida Elsje, Philippa Green, Missibaba, and Suzaan Heyns are some of the designers that have already created looks for her up-coming music video.”
