VIDEO: Khanyi Dhlomo on Leading, Innovating & Making a Difference in Business

Khanyi Dhlomo, Founder & CEO of Ndalo Media, was a ‘My Take’ keynote earlier this year at the 2016 Africa Business Conference at Harvard; where she spoke about leading, innovating and making a difference in her business. Watch her keynote about how she created her leading media brand.

“Khanyi Dhlomo began her media career as an award-winning television news and lifestyle anchor, followed by an eight-year stint as Editor of the women’s magazine True Love, during which she doubled the publication’s readership and circulation. In 2003, she was named one of the most influential women in South African media by The Media magazine.

Following her editorship of True Love, she spent 18 months in Paris, France, as Head of SA Tourism and then completed an MBA at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA. She also holds a BA in Communications and Industrial Psychology from the University of South Africa and a certificate in Media Management form the University of Stellenbosch Business School, where she is a former Alumnus of the Year.

After returning to SA from Boston, she launched Ndalo Media, a multi-platform company which publishes DESTINY and DESTINY MAN magazines, websites and social media platforms with the aim of producing compelling, unique and empowering business and lifestyle content. Ndalo Media’s Contract Publishing Division produces and publishes content marketing platforms for companies including South African Airways, Transnet, Nedbank Private Wealth and Anglo American. With her team, Dhlomo recently launched Athari Concepts, a provider of eventing, communication strategy and business development solutions for clients. It is currently planning to launch an online entrepreneurial mentorship platform, as well as other initiatives targeting school education and children’s literature.

In 2009, she received the Olay SA Iconic Woman Award in the Media, Arts & Entertainment category.

In 2010, she was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. She was recently named one of Forbes magazine’s 20 Most Powerful Women in Africa aged under 40 and was also chosen as a style icon at the 2015 SA Style Awards. In addition, she was selected as one of only 40 individuals chosen annually to be a young African economic leader in the Choiseul 100 Africa rankings.

Inspired by both the business world and women’s empowerment, Dhlomo and her company support charities and organizations working with women, entrepreneurs and children. To this end, Ndalo Media recently partnered with Unicef (the United Nations Children’s Fund) and is a sponsor of #CHPink, an initiative launched by global fashion icon Carolina Herrera and her daughter, Carolina Herrera de Báez, in collaboration with SA’s Breast Health Foundation, to support women undergoing breast cancer treatment.”
