Ituen Basi Spring/Summer 2010-11

Ankara can be quite a trick. While it boasts the colorful heritage Africans love, if not handled carefully, it can be overkill leading to Ankara fatigue. It is therefore very cool when a designer like Ituen Basi comes along and show us the varied ways to wear ankara. Ituen Basi’s Spring/Summer 2010-11 collection, which she recently showed at AFI’s Africa fashion week in South Africa, was pragmatic and had  numerous flattering silhouettes for the Ladybrillewoman and child. Check out the collection below. If you are in the United States and would like an opportunity to witness the Ankara fabric in equally flattering silhouettes, in person, be sure to check out the upcoming 1st ever Africa Fashion Week New York where ankara fabrics and flattering silhouettes like Ituen Basi’s will grace the runways.
