Clive Rundle, Gert-Johan Coetzee, Keys Fashion participated in the South Africa Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018 held at Sandton City Shopping Centre from October 24-27, 2017. Here are highlights from the collection.
“I’m not a fashion designer” says Zimbabwean born Clive Rundle. “In fact, I’m still working through what I do exactly, but it’s certainly not the label ‘fashion designer’ or anything close.” Most designers have already designed their garments with replication in mind, from the choice of materials to the bulk availability of trim and fasteners. Rundle on the other hand views replication as a dilution of his creations, something that kills the uniqueness and spontaneity of his art-making. The elusive Clive is both celebrated and legendary for his design process – his inherent structuring of his patterns can lead the design translation in any direction, from the careful and classic to the elaborate and avant-garde. He opened his first store in 1989 and showed his first collection at SA Fashion Week in 1998. Applauded by the fashion and media cognoscenti, each garment truly embodies the luxury and design that Clive Rundle is distinguished for. He has a store in The Firs, Johannesburg.

As a young boy growing up in Johannesburg, Ryan Keys fell totally in love with fashion. Any chance he had, he would assist his mother, with her wardrobe styling for that particular occasion. Ryan describes his inspiration as derived from the world around him; from the positive to the negative, that which is typically beautiful, to that which is not. He enjoys amplifying the beautiful and has a love for sourcing fine fabrication and delicate embroideries, from all over the world. Ryan’s design signature is timeless, unique pieces, which are typically sheer with intricate detailing. Keys Fashion currently has a store in Hyde Park and he is hoping to expand in the near future.
