Cannes Film Festival: South African Film Blitz Patrollie Snapped up by International Sales Agent at Cannes

Supported by DSTV and the National Film and Video Foundation, and representing South Africa at the global market, the Blitz Patrollie team return home from Cannes’ 2013 festivities with news of the conclusion of the film’s deal with sales and production company Picture Tree International GmbH (PTI). Director Andrew Wessels’ buddy cop comedy was selected as part of Picture Tree’s Cannes portfolio. PTI will act as international sales agent for the hit comedy. Says Wessels, “The film had a great reception at the market and we are so excited at the prospect of showcasing our work on a global scale.

Blitz Patrollie premiered in South African cinemas on May 10, 2013, with acclaimed and beloved South African comedians David Kau and Joey Rasdien as the leads in the fast-paced action comedy. The comics star as hapless Johannesburg policemen Ace Dikolobe (Kau) and Rummy Augustine (Rasdien), whose only chance keeping their badges relies on bringing down a major drug syndicate and ruthless serial killer. What follows is a hilarious series of failed attempts by the two cops to outsmart the savviest gangsters in the city, all with a uniquely South African flavour. The film screened at the Cannes Film Market on May 17, 19 May and on May 20, 2013.

Picture Tree International GmbH is an internationally aligned and integrated world sales and production company with headquarters in Berlin. The core business of Picture Tree International is worldwide licensing of film rights and co-production of international feature films in an integrated business model. Andreas Rothbauer and Alec Schulmann have jointly founded the company. Their first collaboration was in 2005, when they were involved with the Oscar-nominated Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan.
