BET Hip-Hop Awards Ghana Cypher 2010: D-Black da Ghana Bwouy, Sarkodie, Kwaku-T, Ayigbe Edem, BabyG, Tinny & Reggie Rockstone

Africa’s greatest public poets aka rappers have, since the mid-80s, been displaying the beautiful art form that is hip-hop music. Nevertheless, in the West, hip-hop fans have been denied mainstream access to these legends, with Afro-beat/World Fusion music winning the attention of the West.

This past Saturday, October 16th 2010, BET International bucked this Western trend with a feature on Ghana’s greatest hip-hop artists at the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards. The segment aired in the UK, Ireland, Africa and The Middle East.

Featured artists who brought a clear command and understanding of hip-hop culture/music displaying “sick” punchlines, wordplay, metaphors, similes and rhymes upon rhymes were D-Black aka Ghana Bwuoy-Ladybrillemag.com Artist to Watch, Sarkodie aka Ghana’s Twista, Reggie Rockstone (the father of Ghanaian hip-hop), Kwaku-T, Ayigbe Edem, BabyG and Tinny.

Behind the scenes working to make the segment a reality at BET Networks & BET International was Ghanaian-American Lilian Blankson who we featured in June, 2010 backed by the BET International Executive Team including Ava Hall, programing Ava Hall.

Congratulations to all featured artists. Ladybrillemag.com also salutes Lilian Blankson, Ava Hall & the entire BET International team. You ladies make our mission here at Ladybrille to bring Africa to the West a lot lighter. We appreciate you.
