Arise Africa Fashion Week ’09, Alphadi

“Seidnaly Sidhamed, alias Alphadi, was born in 1957 in Timbuktu (Mali) to parents who worked as traders. In Niger, he grew up surrounded by his eight brothers and sisters, where he discovered his love of fashion.

Now, having worked for more than twenty five years in the fashion world, with 500 fashion shows organized throughout the world, and a vast network of relations, the internationally respected brand Alphadi, meaning child of the desert, is one of the best known African designers on the continent.

Alphadi knows the value and the richness of the people of his native land and the traditions which nourish them. He draws his inspiration from the diversity of African cultures.

His creations always remain respectful of the African identity, with a clear ambition to carry the flag of Africa high and with strength in the field of fashion.

“My fight always was to give a chance to the African culture to be known, to develop, that the culture definitively replaces our manner of tightening the hand,” says Seidnaly Sidhamed.”
