The Ake Arts & Book Festival is a five-day cultural immersion showcasing 100 novelists, poets, dancers, actors, illustrators, activists, musicians, artists and thinkers in the historic city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, in Nigeria.
The fifth edition was themed ‘This F-Word’ and focused on the challenges, journeys and triumphs of African women, while exploring a range of feminist perspectives. Held at the Arts and Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, from November 14-18, 2017, the festival featured 12 authors in 6 book chats, 1 art exhibition with 5 talented female artists, 1 stage play, 2 storytelling sessions, 1 in-depth interview, school visits, 12 stimulating panel discussions, 5 film screenings, 1 musical concert with 5 talented women, a tour of historic sites and a night of poetry performance.
