Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, is a Nigerian recording and performing artist, and songwriter. A decade ago she began her foray into music, professionally, as a gospel singer, and even released her freshman album ‘Ogaju’ in 2006.

Her breakthrough, however, came in 2014 when she released her hit single “Tiff” (thief), a song about a man who had stolen her heart. The song earned her numerous recognitions and two nominations at The Headies Awards.

In May of 2016, the singer released the audio visual to yet another hit single ‘Love Don’t Care.’ ‘Love Don’t Care’ is a song about inter-tribal love. Much the same way interracial dating and marriage used to be and is still frowned on in certain areas, so is inter-tribal marriage or dating in certain countries, including Nigeria where Simi hails.

Simi sings about a young woman whose mother calls her to discuss rumors she heard that her daughter is dating a man from the Igbo tribe in Nigeria. She asks whether the pool of Yoruba men, the daughter’s ethnic tribe, have been exhausted. She makes clear a Yoruba girl has no business with an Igbo man.

But, for this young woman that Simi sings about,’love don’t care’ who you are. Love is love.
