The big names in music, fashion and film gathered yesterday July 15th, 2009 at the Nokia theatre for the 17th annual ESPY Awards, an event that honors excellence in sports. In attendance were some of the hottest African, European, American and Asian celebs like: Ephraim Saalam, Demi Moore, Wyclef Jean, Rashida Jones, Kristi Yamaguchi, Michelle Kwan, Nastia Liukin, Serena Williams, Samuel L. Jackson(host), and Terell Owens. Even former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice was in the house! Highly fashionable was tennis star player Venus Williams. Venus wowed us in her J.Lo plunging v-neck black sequined sleeveless dress last year. This year, she gives us Nigeria’s Tiffany Amber design feel via designer Mara Hoffman’s Spring 2009 print dress, with a plunging neck line repeat performance.
The night gave us some suprise winners like Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps who displaces Tiger Woods to become the 2009 ESPY Best Male Athlete. Phelps also won Best Record-Breaking Performance, Best Championship Performance, and Best Male Olympian. Not suprisingly Lebron James walked away with Best NBA player.
