Maryam Babaginda, former first lady and wife of ex-President Ibrahim Badamasi Babaginda, died on December 27th, 2009 in California, USA after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Mrs. Babaginda was known for her impeccable and demure style and even more importantly, for championing women causes including establishing the Better Life for Rural Women Programme. She is survived by her huband and four children (two boys and two girls).
