Oprah Winfrey in a September 2009 show on the ‘Most Famous People in the World,’ stopped by the African continent to highlight Genevieve Nnaji, Africa’s most famous and highly paid Actress. While this is obviously great, we at Ladybrille want to also highlight even more of Africa’s leading film personalities for you. Ladybrille’s Africa Leading Actors and Actresses will feature a short profile on these film personalities across the continent. If you have names you think we should profile, please e-mail us at [email protected].

At twenty nine, Majid Michel is one of Ghana/Gollywood’s highly sought actors. His good looks, strong acting abilities and his passionate commitment to the vast characters he plays has earned him leading roles in films and a loyal following of fans in Gollywood and the even more popular Nollywood (Nigeria).
Majid was born in Accra, Ghana to a Lebanese father and Ghanaian mother. He began showing a real interest in drama in high school where he joined his school’s drama club and excelled at his acting performances. After high school, Majid did not necessarily have plans for an acting career. His good looks saw him venturing into modeling with a model agency owned by his neighbor who was also a film producer. His neighbor ultimately invited him to act in a TV series titled, “Things We Do for Love.” Majid took the offer, ‘wowed’ and won over audiences with his performance in the series. With such success, it was only a matter of time before Majid began receiving even stronger roles.
Majid’s first film role came in 2004 in ‘Divine Love.’ In Divine Love, Majid co-starred and held his own alongside two of the biggest names in Gollywood, Jackie Appiah and Van Vicker. He was again a hit among Africa’s film fans. Majid has since starred in over 25 films including “Agony of the Christ” (nominated for seven awards at the 2009 African Movie Academy Awards), ‘Guilty Pleasures,’ and ‘Heart of Men.’

“”Ever since it existence, the land of Ejukrom has experienced many human sacrifices just to please the gods of the land. Now, the Goddess, Azazi (Nadia Buari) is asking for the blood of Niye(Stacy) and Najah (Tracy) twin sisters to Jamah (Majid Michel). He fights so hard to save their lives. He is chased out of the land of Ejukrom as he runs for his life to the land of Peace. He comes back after some few years with a religion called Christianity and the word of God to convert his people. The gods of the Land are angered and now asks for him to be nailed to the cross just like Jesus Christ of Nazareth.”
