Liya Kebede is an accomplished actress, supermodel, designer and maternal health advocate. She has been featured on multiple American and international VOGUE covers and has appeared in runway shows and major print campaigns for top designers around the world. FORBES has named her one of the top 15 highest earning models and she was recently named as a global brand ambassador for L’Oreal.
Kebede established herself as a leading actress starring in the title role of the National Geographic Film DESERT FLOWER. She also starred in Costa-Gavras’s political suspense thriller CAPITAL alongside Gad Elmaleh and Gabriel Byrne, and French director Eric Bartonio’s 419, a thriller set in Nigeria. Additional film credits include: INNOCENCE, THE BEST OFFER, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, LORD OF WAR, MARSUPILAMI and BLACK GOLD.
In addition to her philanthropic work through the Foundation, Kebede began a clothing line, lemlem (meaning “to bloom” or “to flourish” in Amharic) in 2007. lemlem products are handmade in Ethiopia by traditional weavers.
