House of Nwocha Lagos 'Tsunami Resort' Collection 2011 (Pictures)

Late last year we introduced you to the new label in Nigeria’s fashion industry, House of Nwocha (HON) . Headed by founder and designer Ugonna Omeruo, HON now reveals its latest collection it dubs “Tsunami Resort.” On its face, “Tsunami Resort” appears to be an oxymoron. But, Omeruo anticipated the thoughts of its customer base and new potential clients. She explains she was inspired by the recent Tsunami in Japan and the strength that comes after a storm in the life of the HON woman.

“Most of us often forget that water is the strongest element in the world and in as much as it seems harmless the entire world can be drowned or consumed, just like in Noah’s time. This really got me thinking and before long the designs were created,” said Omeruo. “The HON TSUNAMI is a collection of simple and fluid pieces filled with emotions and uncertainty but also straight and hope, because after every storm the sun comes up and dries the tears. This collection is dedicated to the Japanese people and strong women allover the world who go through daily struggles and still come out on top, looking fabulous, elegant and graceful.”

Indeed. HON comes out on top with effortless use of silk charmeuse and chiffons; and easy draping and cuts that will flatter the diverse shapes of the contemporary Nigerian woman. She also maintains a signature trait among most Nigerian designers, the use of bright colors. The HON woman this season is whisked off to a tropical resort as you would in Calabar, Capetown, Hawaii or Jamaica in beautiful bright blues, sunshine yellows, soothing sky blues and other colorful prints.

  • HON needs to use much taller models to show the actual height/lengths of the garments,  the design details and the functional use of the garments.
  • A few of the garments needed to be steamed before they were photographed to create a synchronism both in the visuals and her story telling.

Enjoy.
