“Introducing Fashion Camp (FC), a week of fashion seminars for fashion savvy teenagers aged 13-18. The first of its kind in Lagos, FC aims to help teenagers with an interest in fashion, to learn and understand the ins and outs of the fashion industry.
Contrary to its perception in Africa, creativity is to be celebrated and FC aims to encourage teenagers with a creative flair along their way; letting them know that there is a good living to be made within the fashion industry. The brain child of uber Nigerian UK based stylist and Fashionista Arieta Mujay, FC came as a result of the lack of African fashion mentors and mentoring programmes in the fashion industry. Fashion is an art form that evolves and young talent needs to be nurtured and encouraged as a result.
FC aims to impart a first hand account of what it’s really like to work in the fashion industry and to impart knowledge on the requisite beginner steps one has to take to achieve one’s goals. With the help of Biki John, another UK based Nigerian stylist and fashion writer, the week long fashion seminars will include classes on photography, styling, the art of design, fashion pr, blogging etc alongside visuals and graphics. Through this, FC hopes to paint a precise picture that shows how both African and contemporary fashion have evolved and what lies ahead for the future.
In collaboration with DEOLA SAGOE, FC hopes to be the first of its kind and the beginning of a beautiful partnership for the benefit of the next creative generation in Nigeria. Guests speakers at daily seminars/ lectures to include DEOLA SAGOE, UCHE/BELLA NAIJA, AMY JAKO, VERONICA EBIE (THISDAY) and a surprise guest. Dates for FC are the 2nd to 8th August 2010.
