ARISE MAGAZINE FASHION WEEK LAGOS begins soon and it is hard to miss the intensity of and excitement as fashion lovers from all over the globe descend on the fashionable city Lagos for a week of outlandish creativity from all participating designers.
However, in the vast sea of creativity that will be unveiled at Arise fashion week, there is one designer whose depth of artistic insight promises an enthralling experience. Ere Dappa Hart is a Nigerian Born designer that remains in the class of artistic legends. She specializes in designing womenswear made from local Ankara fabric that is layered with a labyrinth of intricate beadwork. Ankara fabric is depicts the African culture as it displays the motives, symbols and patterns that are reminiscent of events, old traditions and folklore. Ere Dappa Design can be described as multi-layered or 3 dimensional as Ere uses Ankara as her canvas, the beadwork to highlight the story/focal point and of course, there is the style of the dress, which highlights a woman’s shape. Ere has a passion for colour and uses her artistic vein to create depth in her work. The colour palette of her dresses produces a luxurious and modern lift to traditional Ankara.
The woman who wears Ere Dappa is the classic woman who likes simplicity but yet likes to make a statement. The lines of her designs are clean and without fuss. The rich colours of Ere Dappa designs truly blend the traditional culture of Africa with a Western twist.
In her characteristic style of modern wears imbued with materials and beadwork reflective of traditional artistry, EREDAPPA embarks on a showcase of the impressionistic view of the diversity of the African Wilderness and her culture with her latest collection dubbed ‘Safari In Colour’. The collection shows the features of the wilderness using shapes and geometric patterns. In its collection, patterns are reminiscent of wildcat skins, sun sets, savannah foliage, peacocks, folklore animals and much more. The dress collections includes, shifts, minis, A-line and figure hugging styles for the classic woman that wants to make a statement.
EREDAPPA’s show takes place at 5pm at the AMFW on Saturday, 12th March at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos.
