The British Council, in partnership with The Future Awards Africa has announced the finalists for The Young Media Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Both organisations announced the award in June 2013.
“After an intensive three month search, we are very excited to announce the finalists of the new category – which was evolved from our prize in entertainment and media enterprise,” said Chude Jideonwo, who is Executive Director of The Future Project. “This collaboration opens up the winner to a vista of opportunities for expansion, spotlight and networking in the United Kingdom, and we are excited to be able to provide that platform, which is our focus. It is not just about winning the awards, its about opening up spaces, and expanding impact.” The winner will participate n a UK tour with finalists from up to 10 other countries and the tour will include:
Attendance at London Film Festival’s Cross Media Forum, including exclusive access to non-public events and the exclusive award ceremony.
“Trend Safari” tour of innovative UK media businesses and the entrepreneurs behind them: including Channel Flip and Britdoc.
Access to some of the most exciting and innovative tech start-ups, developers, funders and creatives at MiniBar.
Round table discussions with media experts, creative leaders and funders.
“We were excited by the quality of nominations received and the finalists,” said Ojoma Ochai, Assistant Country Director of the British Council. “The British Council has actively supported and expanded Nigeria’s creative sectors, and we are glad to see the quality of innovation and enterprise in those sectors.”

Nominations for this category closed on July 25, 2013. Nominees for the 15 other categories closed earlier and were announced in July. The winner will be officially announced at The Future Awards Africa 2013.
The awards event – to be televised exclusively for Africa Magic – holds in September 2013. It is presented in partnership with the African Union Commission, the Tony Elumelu Foundation and Microsoft.
