Desmond Elliot, (Jim Iyke, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Dakore Egbuson), Stella Damasus and Genevieve Nnaji are popular names that readily come to mind whenever you think of Nigerian movie stars turned musicians. But they are not the only ones, there are many other Nigerian actors and actresses who are not as popular as these three who have released music albums. The question is why?
Why is it that both the successful and not so successful Nigerian movie stars find the need to enter the music industry?
Some say music and acting are related, therefore someone who can act, can sing as well. What if the texture and quality of the voice isn’t good enough? The one major question we should ask ourselves is how many of these famous Nigerian actors and actresses have had their albums sold like other fast selling albums (of actual musicians) on the market?
Some would also argue that the music industry gives the movie stars good supplementary income. But, have they thought of how the quality of the Nigerian music industry is either being downgraded or upgraded because of such albums?
Perhaps it may be passion that drives this trend, but this trend of movie stars entering music is becoming too much to be dependent on passion.
