LadybrilleNigeria.com is particularly proud of lawyer turned fashion entrepreneur Omoyemi Akerele who has been actively pushing and using all of her network and resources to build a cohesive Nigerian Fashion Industry. Akerele began with her #Buy Nigerian initiative on Style House Files, she then brought us the interesting documentary and joint venture with the manufacturers of Australian lace. Now, she is off to launch the first ever Lagos Fashion & Design Week sponsored by MTN . From the looks of things, we pray and believe with Akerele at the helm of this project, Nigeria’s Fashion Industry will be truly ready for takeoff as a respectable Business of Fashion Industry.
We are particularly excited the event will host much needed seminars and workshops for our industry. See details below:
MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week aims to be a premiere fashion event which will bring together media, industry, buyers and consumers to view the current collections of designers in the fashion capital of Lagos, Nigeria. The platform aims to cut across geographic and culture barriers and position itself as a business of fashion and design event targeted at showcasing the best of the fashion and design industry, drive the Nigerian fashion economy and ultimately uplift its profile within the industry.
As title sponsors, MTN strives to enrich lives as they have dedicatedly done in the last 10 years in Nigeria, using telecommunications as a medium for communicating fashion and design in Nigeria.
Lagos will play host to the fashion and design led event that will feature –
catwalk shows featuring new season collections from the best talents in the fashion industry;
design led exhibitions featuring fashion products and accessories, textiles, furniture design, photography, art installations and architecture;
seminars and workshops that will facilitate knowledge transfer, information exchange and networking opportunities across the board.Another attraction is Lagos itself – a metropolitan island that features an interesting mix of people, cultures and is fast becoming the melting pot for business in Africa. Participants, designers and visitors alike can expect a diversified and interactive platform to maximise their exposure within and beyond their industry circle and open gateways for more business opportunities.
We have addressed in the past a need to improve Nigeria’s fashion industry and suggested the solutions of which Akerele shares a similar vision. The LFDW we hope will get our industry a step closer to where it needs to be. Click here for full article on Nigeria’s Fashion Industry
