Most Nigerian fashionistas know the ankara fabric that is uniquely Nigerian is primarily produced in Holland. But, many do not know the popular lace fabric we wear is also mostly produced overseas, specifically Austria. Nigeria has the biggest lace market in the world. On May 14th, 2011, Austria Advantage, The Trade Section of The Austrian Embassy collaborated with four of Nigeria’s top designers Tiffany Amber, Ituen Basi, Frank Oshodi and Vivid Imagination to bring lace into the 21st century with modern silhouettes for the modern Nigerian woman. These designers participated in a fashion show in Vienna to further cement the trade relationship between The Austrian Lace Manufacturing Industry and The Nigerian Fashion Industry. Watch the video.
