Ify Aniebo debuted on The Future Awards last Season with a blast! She won the Young Person of the Year award and also won in the newly introduced Best Use of Science category. This season, The Future Awards hopes to consolidate on that debut with another impressive person in the Best Use of Science Category.
The category was introduced “last year to highlight and honour young Nigerians who are advancing impressive, practical innovations that can compare with the best around the world,” says Adebola Williams, Operations Director of the awards. “More importantly, we hope to through this, encourage young people interested in science, especially our academic environment which is seemingly wired against development in science.”
Nominations for the awards kicked off on the 1st of October and will continue until the 14th of November, while Town Hall Meetings have been holding across the country and outside. Nominees must be Nigerian citizens and must be aged 18 – 31. “Whilst it is true that it might only be a small random army of young people working in the fiend of science, and our academic environment seemingly wired against development in science,” Williams said, “We now know there are a critical number of young Nigerians who are advancing impressive, practical innovations that can compare with the best around the world. This might also involve innovation or entrepreneurship in science. We want to reward them and to see how we can support their work.”
Other categories for the Awards this year include Best Use of Advocacy, Actor of the Year, Best Use of Technology, Business Owner of the Year, Designer of the Year, Comedian of the Year, Creative Artist of the Year, Journalist of the Year, Magazine of the Year, Musician of the Year, Music Producer of the Year, On-air Personality of the Year (Radio), On-air Personality of the Year (TV), Professional of the Year (Corporate), Professional of the Year (Creative), Screen Producer of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Team of the Year, Excellence in Public Service and the biggest for Young Person of the Year.
Nominations end at midnight on November 14, 2010.
