About Step It Up

“Step It Up” Africa is a shoe drive initiative that aims to inspire, empower and equip tomorrow’s leaders with the essentials needed to successfully complete a post-secondary education by literally starting from the ground up. In many African countries, students are required to wear proper footwear to school and are often sent home for wearing flip flops or coming in bare foot. Children are left exposed to diseases like malaria, guinea worm and schistosomiasis—all of which can be contracted through the feet and can potentially be fatal.

“When the opportunity came to go back home to Ghana for a few days, I began to reflect and think of ways I can give back to my people. After being away for 6 years I couldn’t imagine going back empty handed. I needed to contribute to the youth somehow and “Step It Up” is my way of doing so. These children aren’t begging but they could sure use the help and motivation.”
