If your look could use a bit of fine-tuning, let these five tips taken from the Spring/Summer 2011 runways inspire a whole new you!
1) Fresh face forward—The 70’s were universally inspirational for designers this season. In line with the trend, we saw very simple, earthy makeup that focused on well-groomed brows and flawless skin. Whether matte or aglow, the spotlight was on the skin, and many makeup artists shied away from bold color statements. Try letting the more natural you shine through. For inspiration: Farah Angsana, Michael Kors.
2) Topknots—We at Ladybrille love the effortless chic of a good topknot. The sleek style puts your favorite features front and center. A topknot is the perfect way to flaunt dewy skin, amazing makeup, or fierce lashes! Variations on this classic ballerina ‘do were peeped on numerous runways. Freshen up the do by sectioning the knot and twisting it into coils or tiny buns and securing it with pins to recreate the look. ADAM, Sophie Theallet.
3) 80’s inspired makeup—As children of the 80’s, we must admit that we totally subscribe to the edict that MORE is more. It warmed our coggles to see that the FULL face of makeup has made a comeback. Smoky shadows were paired with colorful lips and a hit of blush to contour the cheeks. While not a look for the everyday, the Grace Jones in all of us is purring contently. Richie Rich
4) Round Frames—This trend has been sneaking up on us gradually since the RunDMC/nerd glasses hit in a major way this time last year. Hipsters have smoothed the hard edges and are opting for more of a hippie look. They ranged in size from small and humble to big and fabulous. Find a lens shade that works for you; dark, clear, or rose-colored lenses can dramatically change the feel of any outfit. Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenburg, Tracy Reese.
5) Micro shorts—This trend along with the mid and upper thighs of ladies about town saw the light of day on catwalks galore. Designers found myriad ways to interpret and accessorize these itty-bitty bottoms. From lingerie-inspired fabrics and cuts to tailored trouser shapes, there is surely a fit for every body. They were paired with boots, booties, sandals and flats, but the hottest trend is to combine them with high heels in the style of the work boot that Manolo Blanik made so popular in the mid-90’s. As long as the sun is shining, you can bet that this fad is not going anywhere. Tory Burch, Odd Molly.
