Africa Movie Academy Awards 2010 – Nominees List

Organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards aka AMAA which has been  dubbed the “Oscars of Africa” prepare for the 6th Annual Awards event which will be held on April 10th, 2010 in Bayelsa, Nigeria.

Gearing for AMAA 2010, event organizers held a nominees party in both Ghana and Nigeria to celebrate African film professionals who made the 2010 nominees list.  Africa’s highly acclaimed film stars Majid Michel, Rita Dominic and RMD were some of the personalities present.

We are impressed and applaud the efforts of AMAA in trying to create a more Pan-African event. While Ghana and Nigeria dominate the recently released list, countries like Mozambique, Ethiopia, Uganda, Malawi and Burkina Faso make an appearance on the list, albeit minimal. We also love that the award event recognizes and rewards excellence in film editing, art direction, costumes and makeup. Now if we could only get the organizers to make their website truly functional instead of a static page, that would be great!

AMAA 2010, according to its organizers will include over 30 African countries, an anticipated 2000 local and international guests and media coverage from local and international networks including BBC, CNN, German ZDF, CNBC, SABC and AFP.
