Monday, July 25, 2016, First Lady Michelle Obama delivered an impassioned speech on the first day of the Democratic National Convention that pulled at heartstrings and moved some to tears.
Choosing to approach her speech from a personal angle, she talked about raising her daughters in the White House, and the historic significance of watching them play on the lawn of a building that was built by slaves.
Dressed in a Christian Siriano structured blue dress, she highlighted the fact that her daughters, and daughters and sons of millions of Americans would take for granted that a woman can be President of the United States of America, because of Hillary Clinton.
“the story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watched my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.”
“Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”
