Seemingly pensive and thoughtful, Funbi Emiola is contributing to the growth of Africa’s R &B genre and forging an artistic path that is hard to ignore. A University student whose desire for music actually began as a way to gain the attention of a girl he was attracted to in grade/high school, Funbi, whether recording solo or adding his beautiful vocals to the songs of fellow artists, continues to deliver hits after hits.
In 2010, Funbi made his official debut onto Africa’s music scene with the track “Superstar” but it seems like he has always had “Superstar” written all over him. Remember when he was in high school trying to get the attention of his girl crush? He became so good with penning emotionally moving love songs he earned the nickname “Shakepeare,” among his peers. Those songs remained untapped until Funbi, in 2002, partnered up with music producer(s) to help develop his sound.
Funbi cites his time singing in his church choir in his early childhood and artists like KC & Jojo’s “All my Life,” Usher, Craig David, Trey Songz, Ginuwine and the late Michael Jackson, as his musical inspirations.
Funbi is signed to Nigeria’s Top Left Entertainment Record Label. He is a Ladybrille Artist to Watch
