Never following trends but always promoting the individual, American designer Kiki Kamanu shows her ‘dresscentric’ Fall/Winter 2012 collection with the theme “Elegance meets Attitude” at the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week in Lagos on March 10th 2012.
Due to the phenomenal response for the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week (http://www.arisemagazine.net/amfw/), which last year hosted 5,000 guests, 51 designers, 81 models, 5 musical acts over three days, ARISE organizers have announced its return to Lagos, Nigeria in March 2012, only this time featuring 77 participants from 6 continents – including leading designers from as far away as India, the Caribbean, USA, Europe and Africa. The ARISE Magazine Fashion Week Lagos 2012 fashion extravaganza will run for an extended period of six days from Tuesday 6th March to Sunday 11th March 2012.
‘Elegance Meets Attitude’ is KIKI KAMANU’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection. The designer’s bold line up explores prints, soft metallics and daring front and back necklines. This very wearable ‘dresscentric’ collection takes the working woman from the board room to a cocktail party and on to the red carpet.

Ms. Kiki Kamanu whose Bostonian mother and Nigerian father met on a blind date, is the face of her eponymous label. Kiki received her education in the United States, France and Nigeria and is at home in any culture, having traveled to over 50 international destinations in five continents (and counting). This is reflected in the diversity of her creations and is no surprise that she draws inspiration from myriad sources. This is evident in her skillful blending of styles, textures and fabrics from around the globe –sturdy cottons melt into elegant Thai silks while vibrant printed jerseys mold to perfect the feminine silhouette. Chiffons are creatively blended together with delicate lace to create wearable art whose intricate details are hand crafted by gifted artisans. To the benefit of fashion iconoclasts everywhere, Kiki left her role at Harvard as the Neurosurgery Education Program Coordinator, to devote her energy to producing well-crafted exclusive creations while continuing to give back to the community by espousing the principles of fair trade as well as running mentoring programs which give a hand up and not a hand out.
The KIKI KAMANU brand of distinctive chic has been featured on several runways. It was featured twice during London Fashion Week, the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week and the Face of SLEEK.
