Spend a little time with designer Eric Raisina and his point of view becomes even more precise when it comes to his clothes. Eric exudes warmth and a strong self assuredness that can only come from a very experienced designer. Eric, Madagascan born, indeed has a wealth of experience spanning three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. A fierce textile designer he has designed textiles for Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gautier and Christian Lacroix, among many. “I have designed for all these houses in the past and I just wanted to design my own textiles for myself,” said Raisina to Ladybrille Magazine regarding the textiles he designed for his Spring/Summer 2010 Collection at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, Arise Promise of Africa Collective.
Eric conveyed a colorful, sexy, romantic and infectious Madagasacar with every piece of his collection that sashayed down the runway. He “stripped and layered silk in sunset hues” and “contrasted and layered silk with “deep indigo and popping chartreuse.” His work conveyed a deep appreciation for the art of fashion while at the same time striking a balance with functionality so the wearer could truly feel the “nostalgia of the island and the unique Malagasy people,” as he explained.
Crowd favorites were the red fringed halter neck top with silk layered shorts and belt worn by Supermodel Chanel Iman, the yellow and charteuse flower crocheted dress with fringe skirt, the black silk feather versatile top with black silk layered pants and definitely one that got a “WOW” and applause, the silk layered fringe long dress with twisted brown leather and silk neck tie.
