Tiffany Amber, the only label to show at Bryant, the second time from Africa, did not disappoint for Spring/Summer 2010. Under the Arise Promise of Africa Collective platform, Folake Folarin-Coker, designer for Tiffany Amber, further branded her signature style in the minds of guests at the show.
Long silk printed dresses glided down the runway with such liberation and lightness it made any Ladybrille woman present want to live in them! Her designs were sexy, sophisticated, urban and effortlessly combined the chic fashion-forward Lagosian (Lagos city in Nigeria) with a New Yorker. Folarin-Coker drew inspiration from Nigeria’s artist Kolade Oshinowo and Diana Ross’s 1974 Motown hit, Mahogany.
The Diana Ross touch was obvious with billowed sleeves and voluminous skirts. Kolade Oshinowo’s style was obvious from vibrant colors and abstract design details such as a multi-colored abstract print maxi dress with shoulder ruffle detail. Absolutely enchanting were the multi-colored abstract print wide leg pants with royal blue silk top, the gold and pink silk chiffon beaded ting detail maxi dress and the “banger?” the purple jumpsuit with turquoise woven detail.
