Within most households in Nigeria, Lara George needs no introduction. If you’ve never heard of her in the USA or Europe, however, allow us to introduce you to this rising artist, one we think you should watch closely.
A Lagosian (born and raised in Lagos) and graduate from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a degree in Architecture, who would have “tonk it” that Lara George would pursue a musical career? Nevertheless, that is precisely what she has done. While learning to design and construct buildings at UNILAG, Lara George set aside time to pursue her other main interest, music. In fact, she began performing in high school and by the time she enrolled at UNILAG, she had gained momentum and was ready to fly. Fly she did when she teamed up with equally talented school mates (Ty, Emem, and Dapo) to form a popular singing group called KUSH.
Inspite of their popularity, KUSH ultimately called it quits and that sent Lara George into a hiatus. Her hiatus was time well spent preparing for a strong comeback as she also worked on a more refined image. Lara George is now officially back! Combining her musical talent and distinct style sense with highly skilled music professionals (directors and producers), the singer/songwriter has been on a marathon releasing one hit single after another. Her Freshman album “Forever In My heart” produced a hit single “Ijoba Orun” and earned her several nominations and awards: “Voice of the Year 2008” Nigeria Music Awards, “Song of the Year” and the “Female Artist of the Year” at the Nigeria Gospel Music Awards 2009.
She prepares to release her Sophomore album later this month and is already creating a healthy appetite for her new work with hit single “Run With You” ft Rapper Lord of Ajasa.
