On November 27, 2016, Lady Gaga was a guest on ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ for a revealing interview where she got emotional while discussing the unexpected price of fame, her new album ‘Joanne,’ and her breakup from fiance Taylor Kinney after a five year relationship.
Five key quotes from the interview:
On the unexpected price of fame
“I’m very acutely aware that once I cross that property line, I’m not free anymore. As soon as I go out into the world, I belong, in a way, to everyone else. It’s legal to follow me. It’s legal to stalk me at the beach. And I can’t call the police or ask them to leave. And I took a long, hard look at that property line, and I said, ‘Well, if I can’t be free out there, I can be free in here.'”
“Fame has also come at the price of everyday human interactions. I miss people, I miss people. I miss, you know, going anywhere and meeting a random person and saying, ‘Hi,’ and having a conversation about life. I love people.”
On her fans adjustment to ‘Joanne’s’ stylistic change:
“I think it is hard for them at times to, you know, change from album to album, ’cause I go through quite a transformation. And that’s just the way I am as an artist. You know, they have to kind of let go of the last era of music.”
On the end of her engagement and five-year relationship with Taylor Kinney:
“I think women love very hard. We love men. We just love with everything we have. And sometimes I don’t know that that love is met with the type of dignity that we wish it would be met with. You know, we’re not trying to make you less of a man. We just want you to love us as deeply and as wholesomely and as fully as we love you.”
On her upcoming performance at the Super Bowl 51 halftime show in February:
“I always say, you gotta play a dive bar like you play an arena, and you play an arena like you play a dive bar,” the singer said, adding that anything is possible for the halftime gig.
