Today in Lagos, Nigeria, “ONE LAGOS” the tourism master brand of Lagos State Government duly represented by the Hon Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture entered into a wide ranging strategic alliance with Filmhouse that covers Cinema and Film policy development as well as best practice advisory.
By this alliance, Filmhouse is also now an official media and distribution partner for all One Lagos content and events. The alliance is positioned to make an immediate impact as both parties are enthusiastic about the various opportunities and key actions that they believe can drive growth in the sector. “ONE LAGOS” will provide both context and opportunity for all who seek to engage the minds and souls of Lagosians as we shape the narrative on Lagos as the tourism destination in Africa.
Together we are developing a One Lagos Filmhouse Film Festival and we are excited about the possibilities that will emerge from these strategic partnership.
Kene Mkparu, CEO of Filmhouse, “I am excited to partner with Lagos State through the One Lagos Brand. Our cinema business kicked off in Lagos and Lagos remains one of our most important markets. It has been very exciting learning all about the One Lagos brand platform and we are strong believers in the power of narrative and this is why we are not only involved in the production, distribution and exhibition of movies, we are also focused on presenting city landmark architectural structures that add to the tourism capital of our locations.
The One Lagos partnership is a significant and important cultural alliance to us and heralds Filmhouse’s launch of the 1st IMAX cinema in West Africa, here in Lekki Lagos. This would be a one-of-a-kind tourism offering in Lagos (akin to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida) and would also significantly add yet more colour to the Lagos skyline as a unique city landmark. We are excited to work with One Lagos on several fronts, as a media partner and content partner, and we are also very keen to enable school kids and others to enjoy our educational experiences at the IMAX complex.
I received the Hon Commissioner at the soon-to-open IMAX site and was proud to tell him that we are going to make IMAX education available to school kids through One Lagos for educational and immersive experiences. IMAX Education movies are designed to educate and enlighten as much as they are to entertain. IMAX documentaries allow viewers to experience new worlds in larger-than-life scope and detail. IMAX can also provide comprehensive supplemental materials for teachers, allowing the learning to continue beyond the cinema.
We are also looking forward to developing several projects alongside One Lagos especially in the realm of community cinemas, in event cinemas to support live events of One Lagos and make it available through our cinemas to audiences all over Nigeria. My team and I are thrilled and thankful for the opportunity”.
Hon. Folorunsho Folarin-Coker (Hon Commissioner, Tourism, Arts Culture) –

“Finally, we must come together to together to take Lagos to its rightful position in the world league of film producing cities. It is in this enviroment that creatives can hope to compete fairly for international award”.
Together we are able to create more opportunities with the resultant trickle down effects across the economy.
One Lagos will continue to enter strategic alliances with various private sector stakeholders seeking to expand our footprint and grow our creative industries and by extension our common wealth”.
