Biola Alabi, former managing director fro M-Net Africa now founder of Biola Alabi Media Productions (BAM Productions), is set to launch a new television show, ‘Bukas and Joints,’ which premieres on The Africa Independent Television (AIT) on March 20th, 2016. AIT is a subsidiary of Daar Communications plc, available throughout Africa, and via Dish Network to North America.
The 13-episode series, whose trailer conjures a palette reminiscent of ‘Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown,’ an American travel and food show on CNN, will showcase Nigerian street foods across 50 eateries. These eateries, which are found across the country, are popularly known among the average Nigerian as “bukas” or “joints”
In a statement to the press Alabi, through her production company, explained Nigeria was its choice for an initial launch because of its population (170-180million people) and great diversity (500 different ethnic groups with distinct cultures and languages). The show is set to be hosted by Olisa Adibua, a Nigerian media personality, who will delve into the history of the foods, the joints and the culture.
“Our aim is to showcase African cuisine to the world, and Olisa’s immense popularity and appeal makes him the perfect person to host the show,” said BAM Productions.
The show looks promising. Watch the trailer below:
