The Brand
Eskado Bird is an evolving Tanzanian fashion and lifestyle brand inspired by the 21st Century Afropolitan movement. The labels modern collections have a fresh and sensual feel, creating alluring silhouettes that compliment our woman by making her look confident and feel effortlessly styled.
Doreen Noni is the owner and Creative Director of Eskado Bird. Her effortless talent, contemporary vision and connection to her African roots have fueled her rise in the fashion industry in Tanzania over a very short period of time.
“My inspiration to create the label came from my mother, Jacqueline Daniel who set up a Boutique in 1991, then known as Eskado Boutique, naming it after me, her last born and only daughter, Estazia(ES) Kang’wa(KA) Doreen(DO)”, says Doreen. “After discovering that my surname, Noni, is actually a bird from my father’s village, I decided to merge the two names to form a new label that represents my full entity – ESKADO BIRD” explains Doreen.
After almost three years in the industry, the label is creating a strong presence for itself beyond corridors of East Africa. In April 2012 EB showcased a collection, which received global attention during SA Fashion Week in Johannesburg, South Africa, taking her brand to greater heights. Eskado Bird has been featured on Mashariki Mix on Africa Magic, Africa’s Start Ups on CNBCA, Nirvana on East Africa TV, Designing Africa on the Africa Channel, Epiq Bongo Star Search on ITV. Nigeria’s Zen Magazine listed Eskado Bird as number one, on their countdown of the “9 African fashion brands to ‘rock’ the world in 2013”.
The Collection
Kaleidoscopic Love Bird, the original name of this Spring Summer 2014 Swahili Fashion Week Collection was inspired by the astonishing, luminous and symmetrical shapes of its print.
The print could almost suggest that it was the reflection of the visions seen at the other end of a Kaleidoscope. The multiple reflections seen at the other end of a Kaleidoscope inspired the pattern placement of this collections design.
